CONCORD, NH. February 16, 2005 – The New Hampshire College & University Council (NHCUC), a consortium of public and private colleges and universities in New Hampshire, announced today that Thomas R. Horgan has been promoted to the position of President and CEO. Horgan joined the NHCUC in November 1993 and previously served as Executive Director. Horgan will continue to focus on the strategic vision for the organization and play a central role in leading New Hampshire’s only statewide, not-for-profit, higher education consortium.

“These are challenging times for higher education, both nationally and locally. New Hampshire is indeed fortunate to have a unique collaborative spirit within our higher education community, and the philosophy of shared stewardship among public and private institutions is a direct result of the outstanding efforts of the New Hampshire College & University Council,” stated Dr. George J. Hagerty, NHCUC Chair and President of Franklin Pierce College in Rindge, NH. “Since 1966 the NHCUC has worked tenaciously to promote institutional efficiencies, to strengthen its member colleges and universities, and to promote awareness and understanding of higher education in New Hampshire. Under the thoughtful leadership and dedication of Tom Horgan, the NHCUC has experienced tremendous success in meeting this mission and the Board is pleased to recognize Tom’s outstanding contributions and vision with this promotion. We are confident that the NHCUC will continue to grow as a model for inter-institutional cooperation and collaboration under Tom’s management.”

The NHCUC’s institutional membership has grown significantly over the past year and has recently added several new institutional members, including the New Hampshire Community Technical College System (NHCTC), Chester College of New England, New Hampshire Institute of Art, and the Manchester campus of the MA College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.

“I continue to be very excited about working for this unique statewide, public and private, higher education consortium,” said Mr. Horgan. “For nearly forty years the NHCUC has provided important opportunities for presidents, administrators, and faculty from New Hampshire’s colleges and universities to explore common interests, to celebrate their unique missions, and to work together to ensure access and awareness of the diverse higher education offerings available in the Granite State.”

Horgan is a recognized higher education and community leader and serves on a number of boards including: the National Association for Consortium Leadership, Granite State Management and Resources, New Hampshire Higher Education and Health Facilities Authority, Campus Compact for New Hampshire, and New Hampshire Forum on Higher Education. Horgan’s promotion is effective immediately.
